‘Use and Abuse of Antibiotics’

Consumers play a crucial role in combating the Antimicrobial/Antibiotics resistance (AMR) which has now become world’s most pressing public health problem.

This year, the World Consumer Rights Day theme is ‘Stop misuse of Antibiotics’ and the Council joins with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness on misuse and overuse of antibiotics.

This annual global event will provide a sound platform to empower consumers, medical practitioners, food industry and policy-makers on the need to find ways to control the spread of antibiotic resistance

We are approaching a post-antibiotic era whereby treatable illnesses will no longer be able to be cured by the use of antibiotics. Antibiotic-resistant bacteria can spread to family members, schoolmates, and co-workers, and may threaten our community. It is taking toll on the world and Fiji is no exception.
