Our Money our Rights : Fighting for Fair Financial Services

The theme for World Consumer Rights Day 2010 is “Our Money, Our Rights: Fighting for Fair Financial Services” and highlighted consumer issues in relation to financial services. The Consumer Council of Fiji celebrated WCRD on 13th April, 2010 at Southern Cross Hotel in Suva. The Chief Guest was the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji Mr. Sada Reddy. To mark the celebrations, the Council launched the preliminary findings of the research it had initiated on the Banking Services in Fiji through the Fiji Institute of Applied Science (FIAS). 

In addition to this there was also a panel discussion on Financial Services- Is it Fair and Transparent?- which was chaired by Professor Biman Chand Prasad, Professor of Economics and Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics, The University of the South Pacific. Other penal speakers included Mr. Swani Maharaj, President of Fiji Chamber of Commerce, Mr Baij Maharaj, General Manager Customer Relations, Housing Authority of Fiji, Mrs. Premila Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tillman Bruett, Regional Financial Inclusion Advisor and Project Manager, Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme, UNDP Pacific Centre, Mr. Greg Watson, President, Association of Banks in Fiji and Mrs. Lusiana Fotofili, Principal  Education Officer, Curriculum Development Unit, Ministry of Education.
