Complaints
More Consumers Seek help from the Council
The Council’s role in addressing consumer complaints continues to improve with an increase in both registered complaints and resolutions concluded. Latest statistics from our Alternative Disputes Resolution (ADR) Division show that the Council has helped consumers in Fiji save about $170,000 in the past three months of 2011 through successfully mediating and resolving complaints. From January to March 2011, Consumer Council received a total of 509 complaints with a monetary value of about $794,000 out of which 296 ($169,394.57) were successfully resolved and closed through mediation.
Landlord and tenancy cases made up the highest number of complaints received; standing at 62. The second highest complaints received were on mobile products at 33 followed by complaints on electronic goods at 32. Council also received 25 complaints against Water Authority of Fiji, making it the fourth highest in its top five cases for 1st quarter.
