RESTAURANT HYGIENE CAMPAIGN

For the first time, restaurants in Fiji will be graded and rated on its hygiene and quality of services. This initiative is undertaken by the Ministry of Health as the result of Council’s restaurant hygiene campaign initiated in August 2008. The campaign with the theme “Make Restaurant Hygiene Your Concern Today” was part of the strategy for introducing a hygiene rating for restaurants and eateries in Fiji and making restaurants responsible for providing quality services to consumers. The Campaign aimed to raise awareness of food hygiene issues to change behavior of food operators to employ good hygiene practices when preparing and handling food and secondly-to place pressure on the regulatory authorities to take action against restaurants operating in unhygienic settings to ensure food safety is practiced by all food outlets.
