CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

The Consumer Council of Fiji seeks to appoint a suitable qualified and dynamic Chief Executive Officer.  The Consumer Council of Fiji’s fundamental aim is to promote and safeguard the interests of consumers stipulated under the Consumer Council of Fiji Act – 1976.

 

OBJECTIVES

The primary objectives of the position are:

  1. To direct the development and implementation of consumer awareness/information and education programs; advisory and assistant programs; and research and legislative programs.
  2. To provide overall leadership and management to the Council to ensure that it meets its objectives under the Act in an effective and efficient manner.
  3. To ensure that the Council is focused on delivering and achieving its objectives under the Act.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chief Executive Officer shall be responsible to the Council for:

  1. Preparation of the Annual Workplan and Business Plans for endorsement/approval by the Council and Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism
  2. Directing and monitoring the implementation of its workplan and programmed priorities by creating an organized and systematic framework for effective delivery, evaluation and reporting;
  3. Sharpening the Council’s accountability by facilitating and networking with enforcement agencies to monitor compliance with relevant legislation to ensure the safety and protection of all Consumers;
  4. Contribute to Government’s strategic planning process and development of public policy by participating in interagency and cross portfolio networking at national, regional and international levels;
  5. Effective management and deployment of all resources by instituting effective business practices;
  6. Creating an environment and culture that is conductive to sustaining high staff morale and performances;
  7. Overseeing the preparation of accurate and timely budgets, reports and papers and present to the Council for adoption;
  8. Ensuring that the Council is well informed of current activities undertaken;
  9. Developing partnership that contribute to the achievement of the Council’s objectives;
  10. Ensure that activities of the Council comply with relevant Acts, legal demands and ethical standards.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Degree in Commerce, Economics, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Law or equivalent and at least 6 years of proven experience in a senior executive management position;
  2. Extensive experience in financial budgeting and monitoring, strategic planning/implementation and resource and people management;
  3. In-depth understanding of Government’s administrative and financial systems;
  4. Good knowledge of relevant consumer legislation and consumer issues nationally and internationally;
  5. Demonstrated ability to access and deploy resources effectively and efficiently;
  6. Must have empathy with and commitment to the business of developing consumer movements;
  7. Strategic thinker, innovative and performance driven.

An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
